Binder Refrigerated Incubators: Applications in Microbiological Research

Cooling incubators play a crucial role in both medical and food research. Culturing microorganisms in the laboratory requires a stable incubation phase. For this reason, Binder has manufactured two lines of cooling incubators: KT (utilizing Peltier cooling technology) and KB (utilizing compressor cooling technology).

KB cooling incubator with compressor technology

BINDER refrigerated incubators use compressor cooling to ensure temperature uniformity inside the chamber. The refrigerated incubator operates with APT-line™ preheating technology, ensuring internal temperature stability and accuracy. The allowable temperature ranges from -10 to 100°C. Therefore, in addition to maintaining optimal temperatures for microbiological cultivation, BINDER refrigerated incubators can also utilize air-cooling cycles or hot-air disinfection cycles.

The specific advantage of the compressor is creating cold temperatures in the cooling incubator, allowing rapid temperature changes as well as sub-zero temperatures. Cooling incubators are effectively used for complex research processes with multiple varying heating and cooling temperature points. Additionally, the KB cooling incubator series features a weekly program timer, digital temperature control, and programmable temperature profiles.

BINDER KT cooling incubators utilize thermoelectric cooling for high efficiency. The advantage of these units is their low power consumption. To maintain a stable temperature, the inner chamber is completely isolated from the ambient environment and features adjustable convection. The design of BINDER cooling incubators prevents microorganisms from drying out during the incubation process.

Thermoelectric cooled incubators are primarily used in the food and microbiology industries. Due to their low energy consumption, these units are particularly suitable for incubation at 37°C or cooling down to 4°C. As they do not use a compressor, these cooled incubators typically feature a compact design, saving workspace. Binder KT cooled incubators feature an intuitive controller with an LCD screen and extended options.
